Payday loans are a quick and easy fix if you need quick cash. It can cost more than just the financing charges if you aren’t careful. For that reason, you should explore all possible alternatives before choosing to take out a payday loan.

Go to your creditors. If you think you need a payday loan to pay one of your existing creditors, check with the actual creditor first. Find out if you can get an extension on your due date. If not, find out what the consequences are of defaulting. You may find that the late and other associated fees with the creditor are less than with the payday loan. First and foremost, communicate with your creditors and let them know of your situation, they may offer solutions that you haven’t thought of.

Freelance. To earn a little extra cash, do side jobs. Have a knack for fixing things, advertise your services in your neighborhood and to your friends. Check out your skill set and see what you have to offer that can provide you a little extra cash.

Go to your boss. Some employers provide advances on your paycheck. This is not the same thing as a payday loan as your employer is only paying you earlier than usual. They will not charge you for financing and other fees. Visit your human resources department to get details about paycheck advances at work.

Garage Sale

We probably all have stuff we don’t need. And, sometimes that stuff can be used by others. Inventory your household for items that you no longer use but that could be useful to someone else. Think: old irons, bed frames, television sets, etc. Unload this stuff with a garage sale or simply post it on eBay or craigslist. No matter how you go about it, selling the things you no longer need is a good way to raise funds.

Inventory your spending. Track your expenses, even bills, and find out what you can cut out. You may find that you have one too many coffees throughout the day. Or, that you can save some cash by eating in more.
